11:00am – 12:00pm- “All I Really Needed to Know…[I Wish I’d Learned in Banking “Kindergarten”]- Steve Ingalls
The classic from Robert Fulghum is intended as a reflective piece to highlight that we need to remember that the basics of our personal and professional existence we learned a long time ago. We believe that’s true in general, but in specific, there seems to be a chasm in what is shared with us as emerging leaders and what should ideally be shared. Is that intentional? A test? Who knows, and it likely depends on who you work for and where. But, in this session, we’re going on a journey of exploration to discuss those things left out of those early discussions (i.e., What are the real advantages to a younger professional in community banking?, What are the disadvantages to career advancement as I look up to see a stable senior leadership team?, What didn’t my preparatory education prepare me for?, etc.). We look forward to your active participation during this session.

8:30am – 9:15am- Front-Line Community Banking – The Secrets to Getting the Most Out of Our Industry’s Most Important Ambassadors – Steve Ingalls
Your bank’s front-line, whether standing in a lobby at a teller position, manning a drive-thru, servicing an ITM, or interacting with the community engaging in loan opportunities, are the first impressions of your industry. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial. However, these positions are oftentimes “entry-level”, where younger professionals are engaged, and pay is modest. Because of this potential mismatch, especially pay, front-line community bankers tend to “churn” regularly to other jobs and out of community banking. Because of that churn, senior leaders often believe higher pay or training is a poor investment. Yet…if we had $1 to spend on training, where would you spend it? Hoping you’ll bring your thinking caps to this solutions-focused conversation on how to get the best out of the faces of our industry.
9:15am – 9:30am Break
9:30am – 10:15am- Why Won't Interest Rates Go Down? – Jim Reber
In the face of the most restrictive monetary policy in a generation, interest rates have either barely budged, or even risen, as the Fed has actually been cutting short-term rates. As 2025 progresses, will we finally see a secular change in the rate landscape? And if we do, how will community banks be affected? This session will look at recent Fed words and actions and what the current expectations are by bond market participants.
